Darjeeling First Flush - Batch 1/9

First flush is Darjeeling's spring picking, the first tender shoots after the winter dormancy. The cup is light and bright, with the greenish, floral character the hills are famous for and a crisp finish that resets the palate. It asks for a little attention, and it rewards it.

This batch comes from Giddapahar, a small family-run garden near Kurseong at 1,463 metres. The cool March air at that elevation slows the bushes down, which concentrates aroma in the young leaf. Plucked between 24 and 29 March 2026, sorted by hand, and sealed while the spring character was still loud.

How we brew it: two grams per cup, water at 85 to 90 degrees rather than a full boil, about three minutes. No milk. A first flush this fresh is delicate, and boiling water flattens exactly the notes you paid for. If your first cup tastes thin, go up on leaf, not on temperature.

First flush is a seasonal tea in the truest sense. It is best drunk within months of picking, not years, which is why we tin it in small numbered batches and record the plucking window on every label.

Steep 1 teaspoon of leaves in 200ml of water at 85°C for 3 minutes. Re-steep up to 4 times for evolving flavor profiles.
